Senate Bill 9 (SB 9), the California Housing Opportunity and More Efficiency (HOME) Act, is a California state law passed in Jan 2022 that aims to alleviate the housing crisis facing cities across California by providing new ways to increase housing supply and diversify the types of housing available.
Under SB9, single family zoned lots can be split into two new parcels also known as Urban Lot Split. Since SB9 subdivision is considered ministeral review, the process is usually much faster than regular subdivision. It makes economical sense for home owners to convert your unused backyard to a new lot which you can sell as vacant land or build a new home.
